Omar’s Journey
‘I want to live, just like anyone else.’
Sixteen-year-old ‘Omar’ was forced to leave his home in Syria and hopes to join relatives in the UK.
I ran an illustration workshop in the Calais ‘Jungle’ camp, encouraging children and young people to share their experiences.
‘Omar’ told me about his journey to Calais and I brought the drawings from his sketchbook to life in this animated short for BBC TV and digital platforms.
A global audience
'Omar's Journey' was broadcast on a number of BBC TV programmes, including the Six O'clock News, Newsround, BBC World TV and the Victoria Derbyshire Programme.
It reached an audience of over a million online within its first day of publication, and was translated into a number of different languages for use on BBC Language Service TV and Digital platforms.
